EFT script for feeling stuck

“Movement is a medicine for creating change in a person's physical, emotional, and mental states.” Carol Welch

Try this script when you're feeling stuck. Scan your body to determine if you have any physical sensations of feeling stuck. For example, it may manifest as a knot or lump in your throat, a tightness in your solar plexus, a constriction in your gut. Be really descriptive in how you describe your physical sensations and use your own language in your tapping. If an image or metaphor comes to mind use it in your tapping. Tailoring the phrases to suit you and how you feel will help you to tune in and make EFT more effective. Diagram of tapping points
Tapping on your Karate chop point continuously or rubbing your sore spot (see diagram):

Even though feeling stuck feels tight and constricting, I accept how I feel right now

Even though this issue (be as specific as you can here) won't budge and I feel frustrated and want it gone, I allow it to be there just for now

Even though I feel stuck, the act of allowing the stuck feeling the right to be there and thereby accepting it, is what could help me to dissolve it

TH this stuck feeling
EB It's not nice
SE It feels stifling
UE I feel helpless
UN I can't move
UC Either way
CB I'm stuck
UA I feel stuck, afraid to go back and afraid to go forward

TH It's loosening
EB It feels less tight
SE But I still feel stuck
UE That's the way I feel
UN I acknowledge my feelings
UC It's still there
CB But lessening
UA This stuck sensation

TH It's definitely dissolving
EB I feel it
SE It's still there … a little
UE It's melting
UN With my attention
UC It's going
CB It's moving
UA It's still moving

You cannot cause a shadow to disappear by trying to fight it, stamp on it, by railing against it, or any other form of emotional or physical resistance. In order to cause a shadow to disappear, you must shine light on it.” Shakti Gawain

I am nourished by love

I have found that there are very few, if any, tailenders (objections) to this statement of truth. We are all nourished by love, we need it. It feeds and nourishes us on every level. Even if you feel you don't have love in your life at the moment, when you have felt loved you have also felt nourished too.

Try the temporal tap (area around right ear) with this statement or try tapping on your thymus (centre of chest) as you say it. Do it as many times as is comfortable throughout the day.

When EFT does not seem to work

Article by Gary Craig.
Introduction to this extensive answer: When progress with EFT seems stopped-or it seems like "it doesn't work"-EFT is usually not the problem. Rather, the reason for the lack of progress can most often be traced to the inexperience of the user. Why do I say this? Because those who master EFT don't miss very often. They not only get their share of "one minute wonders" but, compared to conventional techniques, impressive progress is also made for just about any problem with an emotional cause-including many physical ailments. In those cases where the masters are stumped, however, they don't point the finger at EFT for "not working."
Rather, the masters ask themselves questions like....
"What's in the way here?"
"What have I not seen yet?"
"What core issue have I been unable to find?"
I'm not saying here that EFT is a panacea for everything. It won't paint your toenails, for example, nor will it allow you to drink gasoline. But just about anything that has an emotional cause-including many physical ailments-is a clear candidate for EFT. It often works beautifully, even in the hands of a beginner. But that doesn't mean we have perfection here. We are still learning and should give thanks for those "tough cases" that challenge us to perfect our skills.
Those who want to achieve mastery of EFT will be interested in the following reasons why it sometimes appears that EFT "doesn't work."

Your Beliefs Become Your Biology

ANY thought (or belief or feeling) that is not in alignment with the energy of Creativity, Love, Kindness, Beauty, Abundance, Receptivity and Expansion is a RESISTANT thought or feeling. This resistance disrupts, blocks and impedes your energy which is your life force.

We think thousands of thoughts a day. Observe and witness your thoughts, do not beat yourself up, judge or criticise yourself if you have a 'negative' or 'false' thought about yourself or others. Instead, use EFT to dissolve the thoughts and beliefs that hinder your ability to be kind and loving to yourself. Accepting your self is the first step to accepting others.

What are the big themes in your life?

What are the big themes in your life? Do you notice any patterns? How do you respond to stress? What emotions are difficult or too painful to acknowledge or express? Why? What do you 'complain' about the most? What would you like in your life, but don't have? What's blocking your good? What sort of relationships do you attract?

Explore the following common themes and add whatever else comes to mind. Examine the evidence of these themes in your life by exploring what you believe to be true for you, others and life. Find all the specific events that match up with and confirm these beliefs. List these beliefs by writing them down and rate their truth from 0 to 10. 10 being the most true it could be for you and 0 having no resonance for you at all. Start tapping on the events and beliefs.

Rejection Powerlessness Misunderstood
Abandonment Trust Trapped
Safety Failure Disapproval
Fear Betrayal Perfectionism
Worthiness Bullying Neglect
Injustice Not heard Unwanted

20 Questions for applying EFT in depth

1. When did the issue start?
2. What was going on in your life at that time?
3. What does this issue/feeling/emotion/person/situation remind you of?
4. What is the earliest memory you have of this?
5. How do you feel about having this issue? The feeling surrounding the pain/issue often needs to be cleared first before dissolving the issue itself, particularly if the issue is chronic or serious.
6. How does this issue 'match up' with and confirm the beliefs you hold about yourself, others and life?
7. If there were an emotional contributor to this issue, what might it be? If you don’t know, guess.
8. Create step by step instructions for someone to know and experience what triggers you and your resulting emotions and feelings.
9. Why do you think you have this issue?
10. Do you think that this issue has a message for you?
11. What might that message be? Guess if you don’t know.
12. What quality/texture does the pain have? Be as detailed as you can, for example, heavy, tight, constricted, dark, tingling, and so on.
13. Does it have a colour?
14. Where is the issue/pain located? What is the function of the body part where the pain/issue is?
15. How does that function relate to how you feel? For example are you unable to 'stomach' an issue? Is something getting 'under your skin'? and so on.
16. What else do you notice about this issue?
17. What is the advantage of holding onto this issue? How does it help you?
18. What is the disadvantage of holding onto this issue? How does it stop you from doing what you want to do?
19. What image or metaphor comes to mind when you think of this issue? How does this relate to how you 'are' in the world?
20. If there were a person(s) or event(s) in your life you wish you had been able to avoid entirely, what would it (they) be?

Slow EFT for self help on broad issues

By Silvia Hartmann.
This is an application of the basic EFT protocol I have designed especially with self help in mind.

If you have used EFT on yourself, you'll probably know that sometimes it can happen that an issue has so many different layers and aspects, you think you have to tap forever.

This is particularly the case if the topic is a high level nominalisation, such as "money", "happiness", "family", a person's name or your own name, or an illness you have had for a very long time - these kinds of words have so many different meanings, connotations and memories attached to them that you could easily generate a hundred opening statements or set ups and then some. When you are working by yourself, it can be most difficult to know where to start regarding a topic like that for the best effect, and I have even a suspicion that the main components to such a problem have a habit of hiding themselves from us.

Here is a simple way to use the basic EFT protocol with a single small variation involving time to release a great many aspects, whether you are aware of what they might be, or not.

Do the treatment for the psychological reversal on the sore spot or karate chop point, just saying the word or phrase you have chosen loudly and clearly, three times. There is no need to say anything else although you can always add, "I deeply and profoundly love and accept myself" if you wish to do so. Click here for a diagram of the basic recipe and short cut tapping points.

Then, start with the first treatment point, the eyebrow point, and tap it whilst you repeat the word or phrase out loud. Read on

Shadow work, integration and EFT

In contrast to the meditation found in yoga practice, the psychoanalytic aim is to observe the shadowy presentation — whether in the form of images or of feelings — that are spontaneously evolved in the unconscious psyche and appear without his bidding to the man who looks within. In this way we find once more things that we have repressed or forgotten. Painful though it may be, this is in itself a gain — for what is inferior or even worthless belongs to me as my Shadow and gives me substance and mass. How can I be substantial if I fail to cast a Shadow? I must have a dark side also if I am to be whole; and in as much as I become conscious of my Shadow I also remember that I am a human being like any other Modern Man in Search of a Soul ~ Carl Jung

Make a list of the characteristics you 'hate' in others. Make note of the traits you have a big charge on and observe where in your life you see evidence of these same traits, in you and in others. What is the worst possible thing someone could say about you? Is it possible that this may be one of your worst fears? Asking these questions will undoubtedly bring up some tappable issues for you. What we deny, repress or disown we bury in our bodies or project onto others.

Darkness is dispelled by shining a light on the problem, not by casting additional darkness on its path ~ JJ Dewey

The freeze response and EFT

Wanting to get rid of something is a stuck and resistant energy. It is also the most common thing I hear when someone comes to me for an EFT session. If, for example, you have had neck pain for two years and it's not going away, more often than not, you'll feel frustrated, angry and helpless that nothing you're doing is 'getting rid of it'. This is totally understandable and you need to begin and accept exactly where you're at and acknowledge how you feel. It can be very difficult to take a moment and ask “Why do I have this neck pain”? “When did it start”? “What's the message here”?

Clearing and dissolving any resistant energy is necessary before addressing the neck pain directly. The good news is, dissolving the stuck energy will most probably have a knock on effect on the neck pain too. We can be pretty sure these emotions relate to other things that took place or are going on in our life and the pain (and our response) is manifesting in our neck.

Pain is always an indication. An indication to change direction, in that something we're thinking, believing or doing does not serve our body or mind and is causing dis-ease. Pain can also be a traumatic event that has frozen in the body - the freeze response. When we feel powerless and are unable to process an event, for whatever reason, we freeze. It happens often when the event is extremely traumatic or when we're very young and don't have the resources to cope. The body will hold this trauma for us until we release and discharge it. The problem is many people do not know about the freeze response, nor do they know how to discharge all the tension, pain, stress and other manifestations of the freeze response that they have been holding for years.

This is where EFT comes in. Your body is your subconscious mind. Make use of any body/mind symptoms as a way of releasing and dissolving any freeze responses, patterns and beliefs that no longer serve your highest good. The symptoms are your subconscious mind's way of communicating with you. One of the most important actions you can take is to listen, without judgement, criticism or resistance, this will enable you to gain clarity and take your power back to restore health. Some good questions to ask yourself are:

When did the issue start?
What was going on in your life then?
What does this issue/feelings/emotions remind you of?
How do you feel about having this issue?
If there was an emotional contributor to this issue what might it be? (If you don't know, guess)
How would you describe how you are feeling to someone else so they would know exactly how it feels to have the same issue?
Why do you think you have this issue?
Do you think the issue has a message for you?
What might that message be? (Guess if you don't know)
What do you notice about this issue?
Where is it located?
What are the sensations?
What quality/texture does it have? (Heavy, tight, constricted, dark etc.)
Does it have a colour?
What is the function of the part of the body where the pain/issue is?
How does that function relate to how you feel?
What is the advantage of holding onto this pain/issue?
What is the disadvantage of holding onto this pain/issue?
What image/metaphor springs to mind when you think of this issue?
What else is there to this issue?
If there were a person or event in your life you would rather have skipped, what might it be?

Using EFT for Dis-ease

I have come to realize more and more that the greatest disease and the greatest suffering is to be unwanted, unloved, uncared for, to be shunned by everybody, to be just nobody [to no one]
~ Mother Teresa

According to the Oxford English dictionary disease is defined as “a disorder of structure or function in a human, animal, or plant, especially one that produces specific symptoms”. The origin of the word comes from old French and means “lack of ease”.

Ease is defined as “an absence of difficulty or effort” in the Oxford English dictionary. What if we describe what ease is rather than what it isn’t? Ease is a state of relaxation, order, comfort, security, in other words, homeostasis. Homeostasis is defined by the American Heritage Dictionary as "the ability or tendency of an organism or a cell to maintain internal equilibrium by adjusting its physiological processes."

When there is an excess of dis-ordered information and the body cannot cope or recuperate, dis-ease results. We can experience this dis-ease in different ways. For one person it may manifest in constant overwhelming anxiety or depression and for another it can manifest in an autoimmune disease or cancer. Dr John Diamond says about homeostasis “Every disease is a result of the misprocessing of the body's command of innate intelligence to send Life Energy where it is needed. Cancer is an example of misprocessing – the immune system guarding the malignant cells as being healthy rather than requiring to be destroyed. In its misprocessing the immune system treats bad as good, and in terms of auto-immune disease misprocesses good cells as if they were bad, and then attacks the target cells”.

What does dis-ordered information mean in an EFT context? It can include traumatic events, negative thinking/beliefs, stress, unhealthy relationships etc. Put very simply, any force that disrupts or diverts information (everything is information, including energy) and its efficient communication and processing, results in dis-order and dis-ease to varying degrees. Information in the form of Love naturally creates order, comfort, security, trust and relaxation in the body, mind and spirit. Hate, anger, fear, guilt and other similar emotions create dis-order and dis-ease.

Where in your life do you not feel at ease? List all your beliefs, feelings, events - anything that comes to mind that causes you dis-ease and start tapping.

“The good physician treats the dis-ease; the great physician treats the patient who has the dis-ease” William Osler
